Best iPhone Keyboard Shortcuts

iPhone shortcuts that you do not know of.

Best iPhone Keyboard ShortcutsFor those who have purchased the latest sexy gizmo that almost every one would know what is it.  iPhone.  Holding it in your palm makes you full of pride that you are not outdated in the tech world.  But do you know that there are a lot of iPhone keyboard shortcuts that you can do with this device.  The latest one has one of the fastest CPU 600 Mhz in the market which is only one step behind the snap dragon processor which is 1 Ghz.  It may sure be lacking in a lot of buttons, but it has got quite a lot of keyboard shortcuts that you can flaunt to others.

..

1) Take screenshots of your iPhone

This is one cool feature that I love, great for snapping moments where you want to boast about your high scores in a game or take a quick picture of what is on the screen that you may wish to show to your friends later on.  Press and Hold the Sleep button ( the one at the top ) and press tap the Home button ( the one in the bottom center ) a few times.  The screen will fade and blink once.  The picture has been added to your pictures folder.

2) Play music quickly

You can bring up the music controls by simply double tapping the Home button when you are on the main screen.  The music controls will show up and you can simply click play to start off the music without entering the music application.

3) Listening to just the audio of a video

Sometimes it is inconvenient to watch a video while you are commuting,  but you would like to listen to the audio of that video, say if it is a lecture recording or some video podcasts.  You can play the video first, then hit the off button at the top.  The video is now shut down.  Press the Home button once, then double tap the Home button again.

4) Mute quickly

Turn off your volume while you are in a cinema or watching a musical.  But if you forget and it rings, Press the home button or volume button to mute it instantly.

5) Zooming without fustration.

I know the sliding of 2 fingers to zoom in and out is cool, but a lot of us is unable to grasp the technique properly.  One easy way, is to hold one finger permanently fixed in a position and use the other hand to move around.  Slide using one hand with the other holding on to the screen.  Another way to quickly zoom in to the text, is to do one quick and accurate double tap on the screen where you want to read and it instantly zooms in to the part you wish to read.  Repeat the tapping to zoom out.

6) Taking a picture with steady hands

This is not sony’s cybershot phone thus it does not have any anti shake feature.  But you can still do a very good shot by holding down the shutter button.  This will prepare the phone in the capture mode and once you hold your breath, stable…. release the shutter button and bingo.. you got a perfect shot.

7) Adding words to the dictionary

Simply compose a message and as long as you did finish the word, it will save it to its dictionary.

8 ) Scroll with ease.

Applications like Safari has the address bar right at the top of the phone, and it becomes irritating when you need to flick the screen quickly to get to the top of the app so that you can enter a new URL.  Press the time display at the center to jump straight to the top of the app.

9) Extra letters and symbols

In older mobile phones, we would be able to insert special characters by pressing the numerical keypads repeatedly.  How about iPhone?  Press and hold on to the alphabet and more symbols will show up for you to choose. Slide your finger to the symbol and release to insert the special character.

10) Quick punctuations.

Inserting a full stop or a comma is very tedious in iPhone.  You will need to hit the “@123″ key once, choose your symbols, then hit the “ABC” to jump back to alphabets.  Simply touch and hold your finger on the “@123″ and slide to choose what you wish to insert.  Release and your keyboard reverts back to alphabets and your punctuation has been inserted.

11) Organizing your apps

It gets messy when you have too many apps in the iPhone.  Now you have difficulty finding them as you have more and more pages worth of apps. Touch and hold your finger on any application.  Now the apps start to shiver on the spot.  Touch and hold again on the app you wish to move and you can pull it across to another page by dragging it left wards or right wards.  You can create up to 9 pages worth of applications, so there is no need to fill up one page before you can make another page.  The 4 icons below on the dock can also be dragged out and replaced with your most used applications.

12) Lost of 3G signal.

In case you lose the 3G signal, you can identify it when the network turns into a blue dot instead of the words 3G.  That means you are using a slower GPRS network.  Go to settings, and turn on airplane mode.  Then turn off airplane mode to do a quick reset of the signal.

13) Use the iPhone as a modem.

Internet Tethering,  if you are wondering what is that app.  You just need to hook up the usb cable just in the same manner when you want to transfer files from itunes.  Then Go to settings, General, Network, Internet Tethering.  Turn it on and you can surf the net on a computer.  Make sure you have a decent broadband data plan.  Or else, this is suicide.  Surfing on a phone without a data cap of at least 10 Gig can make you bankrupt.

With all these tips and iPhone keyboard shortcuts for you to play with, this iPhone is no longer outshine by its touch screen counterparts that boasts a lot more features than Mac.
